金箔は『職人さんが手仕事で金を打ち延ばして製造する』というイメージだと思います。その製法で作られる金箔は縁付金箔と言います。しかし縁付金箔は金箔の流通量の1割にも満たずその大半が機械製法の断切金箔です。京都の仏具業界では今でも縁付金箔を使用し生漆を接着剤にして作業する古来の技法を護っています。
※縁付金箔とは和紙製の箔打紙を使用して製造された金箔です。光沢は柔らかく、叩き延ばされた時にできる格子状の跡が特長で製造に手間と時間が掛かるため、高価です。断切金箔はグラシン紙によって製造された金箔です。製造工程が機械化され効率良く生産できるため、安価ですが縁付金箔に比較すると白っぽい感じがします。
